DAYS BY THE RIVER
a film by Runar Enberg
DAYS BY THE RIVER is a film about people living along a
wild river. It is a journey from the indigenous people of the wilderness to the mobile
people of the city, from the society of the nomads to the society of the information
technology. It is a story about people and their way of survival. Their identity is deeply
rooted in the family, their profession and the society they all live in.
Whether among the Sami, the settlers, the farmers, the industrial workers or public sector
employees, the threat to subsistence is always present.
Along this 550 km. cinematic journey the river flow through the landscape, sometimes a
small creek, sometimes wide as a lake, sometimes calm and sometimes in roaring rapids.
In the wintertime the river is covered with ice and the
surrounding forest wears a garb of snow. Our journey takes us from the mountains, through
the woods and through the city to the sea, from west to east, from one spring to the next.
It is a voyage in time and space - a film about people and their days by the river.
